U.S. benchmark 30-year mortgage rate rises to 3.87%
The average rate for a 30-year fixed-rate mortgage rose to 3.87% in the week that ended Dec. 31 from the prior week's reading of 3.83%, according to a Wednesday report from federally controlled mortgage-buyer Freddie Mac.
The 30-year fixed-rate average edged up to 3.83 percent, but has remained below 4 percent for all but two weeks since October.
